Have you ever wanted to set boundaries but found yourself saying yes anyway?
Have you ever wanted to speak for yourself, yet stayed silent?
Do you feel like you need mental rest or a break, but can’t seem to take one?
Have you made a plan, only to notice you’re not following it?
Even with the best intentions, do your actions sometimes feel out of step with your mind?
This doesn’t mean something is wrong with you.
The feelings I just described making a plan but not following it, wanting one thing but doing another are actually very common. In psychology, this is called Cognitive Dissonance. It’s simply the discomfort we feel when our beliefs and actions don’t align.
Experiencing this doesn’t mean you’re failing. Often, it simply signals awareness, that something in your life might need gentle alignment. When our actions continuously clash with what our mind wants, it can affect our mood, patience, and even how we connect with others.
But discomfort isn’t always something to fix. Sometimes it’s an invitation: a chance to notice, reflect, and find a balance between what you believe and what you do. Noticing it is the first step toward alignment, no judgment, just awareness to find a little more balance.
Sometimes, it can be helpful to simply notice where your actions and beliefs don’t quite match. You might pause, quietly observe, or think about moments where this shows up in your life. There’s no need to change anything just awareness is enough.
You might notice questions like:
-
Where in your life do your actions feel out of step with what you believe?
-
Is there a moment you’ve been avoiding because it feels uncomfortable?
-
What small step could help bring your actions and intentions closer together?
-
How does noticing this tension make you feel without judgment?
Some people like to journal their thoughts, reflect during a quiet moment, or simply pause and notice. Others may just read and nod along. Any of these are fine and there’s no right or wrong way.
Sometimes noticing is enough; awareness itself can be the first step toward alignment.
